| History/Origin |
Named after Ernest Ebenezer Samuel FLINT, born in 1854. He was employed by the South Australian Post Master General's Department at the age of 17 in 1871 during the latter stage of the Overland Telegraph Line construction. He subsequently was appointed to the Port Darwin Line and spent the majority of his service stationed at various localities along the route. Flint was present at the fatal spearing of Stapleton at Barrow Creek in 1874, sustaining serious injuries to himself during the attack. He was one of the first explorers into the Arltunga area whein in 1882 he accompanied Mounted Constable Shirley into the area east of Alice Springs. He died aged 33 with complications from a bout of rhematic fever and was buried at the Alice Springs Telegraph reserve. Mt Ebenezer, east of Ayers Rock, was named after him following his death.
