History/Origin | The town of Daly Waters is named after the adjoining stream feature named by John McDouall Stuart on 23 May 1862, during Stuart's sixth and successful attempt to cross the Continent from south to north. Daly Waters is named after Sir Dominick Daly who was the Governor of South Australia at the time. The town of Daly Waters grew around the Daly Waters Depot, which later became the Telegraph Station (early 1872), and was surveyed in 1927 following the extension of the railway line to Birdum. The townsite was proclaimed in 1952. |
