History/Origin | The Pine Creek locality takes its name from the Town of the same name which in turn was named after the feature 'stream' on the banks of which it is built. Pine Creek is named due to the pine trees which once grew in the Creek. Although originally officially called Playford, the town of Pine Creek was never known by this name except by officials. Following the construction of the Overland Telegraph Line in 1871 and the subsequent discovery of gold, a Telegraph Station and Police Station were established adjacent to the Creek. |
