History/Origin |
The Nicholson locality is named after the Nicholson River which was named after Dr William Alleyne Nicholson of Bristol, England, by Ludwig Leichhardt during his 1844/45 expedition from Moreton Bay to Port Essington. Dr William Alleyne Nicholson's generous friendship had not only enabled Leichhardt to devote his time to the study of the natural sciences, but also to come out to Australia. |
