History/Origin |
The locality of Marrakai is named after the Marrakai pastoral station which is believed to be a named formed by the joining of the Aboriginal word "kie", meaning river, and the corruption of the English word "Mary". Aboriginals are believed to have told the original pastoralists that the Mary River was " Mary kie" or "Maryki" which has since been corrupted to Marrakai. |
