History/Origin |
Elcho Island was most likely introduced as a name by Francis Cadell when he named the Cadell Strait after his father, Hugh Cadell of Prestonpans. His father was acquainted with Lord Elcho, a Scottish colleague and hence the inclusion of the name Elcho Island in the subsequent cartographic editions of 1876. |
