Title: Northern Territory Geochronology Uranium-Lead (U-Pb-Hf-O) Dataset
Citation Date:1998-01-01
Date Type:creation
Custodian:Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade
Description
This dataset comprises uranium-lead (U-Pb) age determinations (reported in millions of years) and isotope ratios for zircon and monazite from rocks from the Northern Territory. The data is sourced from the Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) and collaborating researchers, laboratories and published literature. Analytical data and metadata, and pooled results for samples derived using U-Pb laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) and thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (TIMS) determination methods. In addition, bibliographic references are provided for U-Pb, Lu-Hf isotopic and O isotope ratios The public data is updated on an annual basis.

Data Quality
Lineage:This dataset is derived from published NTGS studies and published litersature. The data sources are recorded within the dataset.
NTGS AND LEGACY DATA: Published data is continually updated.
Positional Accuracy:Nominal Scale: 1:100 000
The positional accuracy is variable but usually not better than 5m
Attribute Accuracy:The geochronological data comes from samples analysed by geochronologists from Geoscience Australia, NTGS, researchers or analytical laboratories operating in collaboration with NTGS, or from published literature. Data in the dataset has been checked against the original source.
Logical Consistency:A geoscientist visually inspected the finished dataset to make sure the attributes were accurate and the data were consistent spatially with the quality-controlled database it was derived from. Tests are also carried out on these data for data completeness, correct spatial representation, attribute accuracy, logical consistency and correctness.
Completeness:The dataset coverage is complete for the Northern Territory.
