Title: Gouldian Finch Habitat Vegetation Survey
Citation Date:2011-06-30
Date Type:creation
Custodian:Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security
Description
This spatial dataset provides polygon information, at 1:250,000 scale, on the map unit boundaries of vegetation communities surrounding the proposed Batman Gold Mine, Northern Territory over an area of approximately 6,800km2. The main purpose of the survey was to determine the stocking rate of Eucalyptus tintinnans, which are known to be potential nesting sites for the Gouldian Finch. No detailed vegetation descriptive information is contained in either the map or report.

Data Quality
Lineage:Initial interpretation of map unit boundaries were delineated from 1:100 000 Landsat 5 scenes (circa 1988). All perceivable patterns were delineated with reference to geological maps for the area. Map units transferred to clean dyeline sheets or topographic maps via a mapograph. Original maps were hardcopy only. With the advent of geographic information systems polygons were digitised by rectifying the original hard copy maps.
These polygons were attributed using the classification of vegetation communities derived from numerical analysis of full-floristic vegetation survey sites collected from across the survey area.
Positional Accuracy:POLYGON DATA; Polygon boundaries were manually digitised from a combination of topographic maps and satellite image analysis. Positional accuracy generally considered moderate to high (+/- 200 metres).
Attribute Accuracy:Attribute values, as described in the Data Dictionary below, have been added to each polygon.
Attributes assigned according to the 49 communities delineated in the original report for the survey. Two new attribute labels (50, 51) were added to the map data set. These are not contained in the original report. Brief description only of each vegetation type.
Logical Consistency:ESRI ArcGIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are; must not overlap; must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.
Completeness:Complete
