Description
A groundwater resource investigation has been undertaken in the Gunn Point region as part of the Mapping the Future project 2018-2022 to inform land use and water resource planning. The project successfully mapped groundwater quality types and the distribution of salinity across the study area.
An analysis was undertaken to produce a map delineating the level of groundwater resource risk associated with development. The study area has been divided into four levels of risk, taking into consideration the factors of electrical conductivity, access to diffuse recharge, impact from salinity and known difficulties in constructing successful bores.
Groundwater Resource Risk Class 1
Access to groundwater risk: Low
Description: Fresh and annual recharge. Fresh water quality (EC < 1000 uS/cm), annual recharge, not impacted by saline groundwater. Shallow depth to productive aquifer.
Groundwater Resource Risk Class 2
Access to groundwater risk: Minor
Description: Fresh but limited annual recharge. Fresh water quality (EC < 1000 uS/cm), minor to no annual recharge, not impacted by saline groundwater. Medium to deep depth to productive aquifer.
Groundwater Resource Risk Class 3
Access to groundwater risk: Moderate
Description: Fresh to brackish and saline impacted. Fresh to brackish groundwater (EC 450 to 2000 uS/cm), impacted by saline groundwater. Mixed depth to aquifer.
Groundwater Resource Risk Class 4
Access to groundwater risk: High
Description: Brackish and saline impacted. Brackish to saline groundwater (EC < 2000 uS/cm), impacted by saline groundwater. Deep depth to productive aquifer.
This record summarised the groundwater resource risk classes as explained above.
The groundwater assessment component of the project achieved three key objectives (captured in the other five datasets for this survey)
1. delineate zones and mechanisms for recharge into the Koolpinyah Dolostone aquifer
2. establish locations and sources of groundwater discharge from the system
3. map the spatial distribution of groundwater salinity and mechanisms for potential intrusion

Data Quality
Lineage:
Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy of 250 metres from bore locations
Attribute Accuracy:
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Following polygon data topological rules, checks were performed to detect flaws in the spatial data structure. The coverage was cleaned, to eliminate any duplicates arcs. The coverage was built for arcs and polygon topologies. A label errors routine was run to detect unlabelled polygons. A node errors routine was run to identify pseudo nodes and dangles. Checks were done to unsure that all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at intersections of lines and that each polygon has only one label.
