Description

Abstract:

This spatial dataset describes the mapped polygons for the vegetation survey of the Stray Creek catchment at a scale of 1:25 000.
The Stray Creek sub-catchment is located approximately 200km south of Darwin and lies within the Daly Basin covering an area of approximately 1,218 km2. Thirty four vegetation communities are further described in the accompanying report.
The objectives of the survey were to:
- provide land managers, developers and government authorities with accurate data for which to base sound advice on land development conservation in the catchment;
- improve our understanding of the nature and extent of significant vegetation communities;
- provide baseline environmental data for ongoing monitoring and validate the existing surveys across the catchment.

Data Quality

Lineage:Original linework/vegetation patterns delineated using 1:25,000 colour aerial photography composit mosaics to delineate mapping unit boundaries and site selection, then extensively ground-truthed with topographic basemap/GPS coordinated field survey and site data collection. Resultant verified linework georeferanced to GPS ground control points and 1:25,000 topographic basemap then input into GIS system as ArcInfo vector information and built as a polygon cover. Recompiled and updated to GDA94 as part of ongoing GIS Progarm 2004.
Source data
Aerial photography - 1:25,000 Col 1983&84 1994&97 Various

- Northern Territory Cadastre AGD66
GIS - ArcInfo vector as AGD66 / GDA94

Positional Accuracy:POLYGON DATA
Map unit boundaries transferred from aerial photographs to topographic maps, using the best available topographic mapping at the time (generally 1:100 000) via a mapograph. Level of accuracy depends on the number of control points on individual aerial photographs. Control points include creek lines, cadastre and other topographic features. Depending on the nature of the landscape (the number of control points), positional accuracy may vary. Positional accuracy generally considered moderate to high.
POINT DATA
Site point coordinates collected from a geographic positioning system with general accuracy of within 100m. Selective availability during this time prevented increased accuracy.

Attribute Accuracy:Analysis of site data to provide community information. Attribute values, as described in the Data Dictionary below, have been added to each polygon.

Logical Consistency:Good - Dataset topological consistency has been system checked and all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at the intersection of lines and there is only one label within each polygon. Polygons have been classified for Community ID in the lookup table.
