Data Quality
Lineage:The map unit boundaries was intepreted by land resource officer in 1998-2004 at 1 : 25,000.
Map unit boundaries derived using aerial photography, satellite imagery, geological and topological data. Field data (site information) described and classified according to national standards.
Map unit polygons collected via geographic information system (ARC/MapInfo).
Core landform, soil and vegetation attributes attached to map units with additional attributes unique to individual surveys.
Positional Accuracy:POLYGON DATA
Map unit boundaries transferred from aerial photographs to topographic maps, using the best available topographic mapping at the time (generally 1:100 000) via a mapograph. Level of accuracy depends on the number of control points on individual aerial photographs. Control points include creek lines, cadastre and other topographic features. Depending on the nature of the landscape (the number of control points), positional accuracy may vary. Positional accuracy generally considered moderate to high.
POINT SOURCE DATA
Site point coordinates derived from a geographic positioning system with general accuracy of within 10-50m.
Attribute Accuracy:Attributes assigned according to the dominant feature. For example where ten sites have been grouped to describe a particular map unit and two different soils described from these sites then the dominant soil is chosen.
Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in linework. Using ArcInfo topological consistency checks were performed to detect flaws in the spatial data structure. The coverage was cleaned, to eliminate any duplicates arcs. The coverage was built for arcs and polygon topologies. A label errors routine was run to detect unlabelled polygons. A node errors routine was run to identify pseudo nodes and dangles. Checks was done to unsure that all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at intersections of lines and that each polgon has only one label.
Completeness:Complete.

Attribute Attribute Description Possible Code Code Description LAND_UNIT The LAND_UNIT field is the land unit label from the spatial dataset (ie.9a2). LF_CLASS Landform class is a system adopted by the department. The categories do not conform to national criteria even though some have been sourced from Australian Soil and Land Survey - Field Handbook (Mc Donald et.al. 1998). LU_DESC The LU_DESC is a general text field from the map legend. The amount of detail may vary between surveys SOIL_SYS The SOIL_SYS field is the soil classification system used to describe the soil in the land unit description. SPECIES_ 3 Where 3 dominant vegetation species described in a land unit. The order of species listed determines their dominance. SPECIES_1 The dominant vegetation species described in a land unit. The order of species listed determines their dominance SPECIES_2 Where 2 dominant vegetation species were described in a land unit. The order of species listed determines their dominance. SURVEY_ID The SURVEY_ID field is the first five characters from the corporate survey code. SURVEY_NME The SURVEY_NME is the full name of the report to which the mapping refers VEG_STRUC Structural classes from NVIS (ESCAVI 2003), Walker and Hopkins (1998) and Specht (1970) classification schemes. VEG_SYS The National Vegetation Information System (NVIS) classification system.
