History/Origin Named in commemoration of Private Gerald Edward Aplin, who enlisted in the Army in Darwin during WWI. He was born in Townsville, Queensland, the son of William and Mary Jane Aplin. Aplin was with the 25th Battalion and was killed in action on 29 July 1916 at Villers Bretonneaux in France.
