History/Origin | Named after Dolly Marpul who is the third born of Garnwaduk (Darwin Desha) and Polly Nedey (Marakai Polly) in about the late 1930s. She grew up on Marrakai Station and lived there until it was resumed for the rice project in the 1950s. In the 1980s she was a senior figure at the new Fifteen Mile Community and later moved with her daughter, Elizabeth, to Palmerston. As a senior Warai women, in her later years she devoted much time to working with linguists documenting the Warai language and passing on stories to the next generations, as evidenced by her work on Warai Bush Tucker, published by Glenn Wightman, through the Northern Territory Government. |
