History/Origin |
Named after Allan and Walter Allwright, who carried freight from Darwin's state shipping lines to towns along the Stuart Highway north from the Alice Springs' rail head to Darwin and across to Mt Isa. Allan Allwright was a shareholder in Co-Ord, acquiring shares from Dane Baldock. Walter Allwright lost his truck in an accident and then joined forces with his brother Allan. Walter became Operations Manager of Co-Ord. The brothers worked at Fodens with body trucks and a semi-trailer up to the early Sixties when Allan sold his shares in Co-Ord to Noel Buntine. Allan Allwright then bought an AEC body truck with bogie drive and two 34-foot trailers with crates. He then became a sub-contractor to Noel Buntine until he retired. Walter continued to work with Co-Ord until his retirement. |
