History/Origin | Named after Sister Damascene Callahan, a Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. She was principal of St Joseph's/ St Mary's School in Darwin in 1933 and held the position for seven years. The school was closed during the war years but reopened in 1946 and Sister Damascene was principal again. At the end of the year she was transferred south; however, she returned to the Top End in 1960 for four years, working on the Missions of Bathurst Island and Daly River. The theme, Top End Catholic Priests and Religious, was selected through consultation with Larrakia Development Corporation. |
