Named after the Pitts Special, a series of light aerobatic biplanes designed by Curtis Pitts. It has accumulated much competition since its first flight in 1944. The Pitts biplanes dominated world aerobatic competitions in the 1960's and 1970's and, even today, remains a potent competition aircraft in the lower categories. |
