History/Origin | After HMAS Vendetta (II), a Daring Class Destroyer of 2800 tonnes, commissioned on 26 November 1958. On 26 December 1974, the day after Darwin was devastated by Cyclone Tracy, Vendetta's crew were recalled from Christmas leave and she sailed from Sydney on 27 December 1974, carrying vital supplies to assist in what became known as Operation NAVY HELP DARWIN. Arriving in Darwin on 3 January 1975, her crew were immediately involved with clearing and salvage operations. HMAS Vendetta returned to Sydney and was decommissioned in October 1979 and sold in 1986. |
