History/Origin |
Named in commemoration of Rosie Nangalaku Petherick (1925?2007) an Aboriginal woman, born on the Moyle River, who in 1949 met Edward Raymond (Ray) Petherick and together they cut and milled timber and shot crocodiles in the Reynolds and Finniss River wetlands. They had eight children. Rosie's grandmother Rarem was a Marri, which according to H Basedow (1907) were a southern Larrakia group. |
