History/Origin Named after W Wishart who was contracted to build Darwin's first substantial wharf. Wishart and his workman arrived in Darwin aboard the Airlie in 1885 and by 1886 the wharf was completed. The new wharf allowed cargoes to be brought ashore for the construction of the proposed transcontinental railway.

In 2011, due to the realignment of the Wishart Road and Tivendale Road intersection, Wishart Road was revoked and renamed. The eastern section of Wishart Road was renamed Kirkland Road.
