History/Origin Named after Matthew Bell Wilson who was the storekeeper at the Victoria River depot at Timber Creek between 1912 and 1931. The depot was used in the 1890s as a storage point for supplies for Victoria River Downs during the riverboat era. Wilson held a permit for the store in 1912 and was granted a miscellaneous lease by Administrator Urquhart in 1921. Wilson died in 1931 and was buried on the Hill near the sub-divided area.
