History/Origin |
Named after George Woodroffe Goyder, Surveyor-General of South Australia. Born in Liverpool, England, in 1826 Goyder emigrated to Australia in 1848. In 1868/69 Goyder was appointed by the South Australian Government to carry out a survey of land in the Northern Territory during which survey he selected Port Darwin as the new site for the Palmerston now known as Darwin. |
