| History/Origin |
Named after Mr Justice Richard Charles (Dick) Ward who was elevated to the Bench in 1974, where he acted as the interim Aboriginal Land Commissioner. Mr Ward commenced law practice in the Territory in 1939 and worked in Alice Springs and Darwin. He was elected to the first Leglslative Council in 1947 as the member for Alice Springs and later represented the Darwin then Port Darwin and finally the Ludmilla electorates.
