| History/Origin | William Kirkby-Jones AM (d. 29 May 2015) William Kirkby-Jones was an Australian property and housing industry professional with extensive experience in land development and housing organisations. He held senior roles over several decades, including as Chairman of the Northern Territory Land Development Corporation Advisory Board from 2010 to 2013, during which time the suburb of Zuccoli in Palmerston was progressed through planning and delivery. Prior to his service in the Northern Territory, Kirkby-Jones had a long career in the housing and land development sector nationally. He was the founding Managing Director of the Defence Housing Authority, served as Managing Director of the Housing Industry Association, and was Chairman of Landcom, the New South Wales Government?s land and property development corporation, for 15 years. He also held various non-executive board positions in public and private organisations related to housing and urban development, including as a Director of the Australian Housing and Research Institute. In 1992, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to the housing industry. In the same year, he received the Sir Phillip Lynch Award of Excellence, the Housing Industry Association's highest national honour, recognising sustained contributions to the Australian residential building industry. His work in the Northern Territory included contributions to residential land planning and development initiatives. The naming of William Kirkby Jones Park in Zuccoli reflects his involvement with the Land Development Corporation and his contribution to land development in the region.
