History/Origin Named after Norman Richards, who came to Darwin after the war and was involved in building for the Department of Works and Housing. He had a timber mill in Westralia Street, Stuart Park, where they milled timber delivered by the Lee Brothers from Cobourg Peninsula. They had to swim the logs in, then cart them to Westralia Street for milling. He married Valerie Chin in Darwin on 29 June 1949. Norman Richards was also Light Weight Boxing Champion of the NT, beating Billy Dunlop in the title fight in the stadium where the RSL now stands in Cavenagh Street.
