Named after Anthony Patsalou (1932-1997) who came to Darwin in 1951 from Cyprus. He was invited by his brother in law Peter Syrimi to work with him on the poultry farm in Berrimah. In 1952, he bought the poultry farm from Peter and ran the farm on his own for two years. In 1954, his brother, Chris Patsalou joined him to work on the farm. The poultry farm produced fruit, vegetables and chickens which was sold locally. He had contracts with Defence, hospital, supermarkets and five hostels/motels he even catered for all ships and the Royal Yacht in 1962. In 1972, the poultry farm was acquisitioned by the government for development and Anthony was given a year to wind down the farm. Anthony and his wife Kyriacou (Koulla) moved to Lee Point Road, Moil where his wife still resides today. In 1978, he bought Coolalinga Farm where he grew fruit and vegetables. In 2014, the family Coolalinga property was sold. Anthony was a well respected member of the Greek Orthodox and Cyprus community. |
