Colin Campbell McKenzie was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Colin worked as an engineer for Vesty's Meatworks, Darwin prior to WWI. He enlisted in Darwin on 6 May 1916 at the age of 28. Colin embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 17 November 1916 as part of the 15th Battalion, 22nd Reinforcement. On 17 May 1917 he transferred to the 11th Battalion. He was appointed to Lance Corporal on 3 August 1918. Lance Corporal McKenzie was killed in action (machine gunfire) on 10 August 1918 at Amiens, France and buried in the Heath Cemetery, France. His name appears on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretenneux, France. |
