Named in commemoration of Sapper Alfred O'Neill who enlisted for the Australian Army in Darwin in 1916 at the age of 31. Sapper Alfred O'Neill served with the Australian Imperial Force, 1st Tunnelling Company. He was killed in action in Belgium on 2 October 1917. Sapper Alfred O'Neill's name appears on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, and the Darwin Cenotaph. |
