History/Origin |
Named in commemoration of Private James Donovan, who undertook an apprenticeship with the Department of Public Works in Darwin for two years before traveling to New South Wales in 1915 to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force. Private Donovan received a gunshot wound to the elbow on 21 July 1916 and on 6 April 1917 another gunshot wound to the knee. He was killed in action on 14 April 1918 at Villers-Brentonneux, France and was buried at Crucifix Corner Cemetery, France. |
