History/Origin |
Named after John Marquis Charles (Jack) Knox and his brother William Thomas (Bill) Knox. Both men arrived in the north-west in the early 1920s, working on Mulla Bulla, Ning Bing and other stations in the Kimberley before taking up the mail run from Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek. During the Alf Martin (manager of Victoria River Downs Station 1926 -1945) era, there were six outstations operating on Victoria River Downs including Moolooloo which was run by head stockman Jack Knox. His brother Bill was employed on the station as a cook. Both men were keen participants in station races and sports, with Jack winning the Wickham Gift Shield during the 1936 Victoria River Downs Christmas Sports Day. |
