History/Origin Named after Hannu Kononen who was born in Finland on 30 October 1956, one of 5 children. His family came to Australia in 1959, living in Sydney, then Canberra for a time, before arriving in Darwin around 1966. He commenced work with NTEC (Power and Water) at the old Stokes Hill Power Station, in 1978. He also worked at Channel Island and Ben Hammond Workshop, remaining with them through to the current Power and Water Group. He played Australian Rules for the Darwin Football Club (Buffaloes) and was a Life Member. He was also a boxer and was part of a team representing the Northern Territory when they competed interstate.
