History/Origin | Named after Dick Rogers, who came to the Territory in the late 1950's and initially worked as a stock yard builder and fencing contractor in Central Australia. In 1959 Dick moved his family into Alice Springs and began his long association with the trucking industry. At first Dick was in partnership with Martin Petrick and Joe Mengel and they formed RPM Transport which specialised in livestock cartage in Central Australia. When RPM Transport partnership dissolved, Dick went into business for himself with two old Fords and diversified his operations to include oil-field haulage, dam building on local stations, partnerships in a fuel depot and pubs in Adelaide as well as gaining his pilot's licence so he could fly his own plane. He started Polar Expressways which saw the development of regular fridge van runs with three trucks between Adelaide, Alice Springs and Darwin. RPM Transport became Tanami Transport in the mid 1970's with a fleet of up to twelve trucks. |
