History/Origin |
Named after a monument adjacent to the Stuart Highway, into which a large log has been placed. When viewed from a particular angle it appears to be British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's head. It is believed to have originated during World War II when ARMY convoys travelled the highway between railheads at Alice Springs and Birdum, transporting supplies for the defence of Darwin. |
