History/Origin Named after Sister Laurencia Enright, a Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. She came to the Northern Territory in 1934 where she taught at St Joseph's primary school. In 1937 she moved to Bathurst Island and was there until 1942 when she was transferred to Alice Springs and Altunga. After the war, in 1946, she returned to Bathurst Island and between 1958 and 1967 worked in Central Australia. She was named Regional Superior of the Sisters, a position she held for six years while being based at Nightcliff. From 1972 to the early 1990s Sister Laurencia was in charge of the Boarding School at Alice Springs and undertook pastoral work both in Darwin and Alice Springs, visiting gaols, aged care homes and hospitals. She spent a total of 53 years in the NT as a teacher, administrator and pastoral worker.

The theme, Top End Catholic Priests and Religious, was selected through consultation with Larrakia Development Corporation.
