History/Origin | Named after Valeriano and Paulina Angeles. Valeriano came to Darwin in 1899 where he was associated with the pearling industry as a tender on luggers. He participated in an oil search at Elcho Island in the 1930's and later ran a lugger from Melville Island. In 1910 he married Paulina Lenneth, who was born in Darwin. The family lived for many years in Stuart Park before and after World War II. Valeriano passed away on 10 April 1950, aged 60, and Paulina passed away three years later. They are both buried in Gardens Cemetery. |
