History/Origin | Named after Sister Gerardine Corrigan, a Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Sister Gerardine arrived on Bathurst Island in 1921. She worked there for 15 years. During her time there, she looked after the boarders, taught in the school and helped the women. After her death in Sydney in 1980, the Tiwi people buried her on Bathurst Island. The theme, Top End Catholic Priests and Religious, was selected through consultation with Larrakia Development Corporation. |
