History/Origin | Named in commemoration of Edward (Ted) William (1916 - 1980) and Corrinne Lisle (nee Kermode) (1914 - 1981) Warton. Ted was a leading hand with the Senior Surveyor in Alice Springs when he was called up to enlist in 1942. He was engaged with the Army Engineering Units until 1945 when the Surveyor-General asked for his release to complete a standard traverse survey of the Stuart Highway between Alice Springs and Darwin. Ted was a member of the Alice Springs Progress Association, the Alice Springs Higher Primary School Committee, the Darwin Higher Primary School Committee and the Masonic Lodge. Corrinne was also involved in the community and was an active member of the Country Women's Association from 1939 to 1957. |
