History/Origin | Named after Dick Francis Lechleitner, an aboriginal activist that walked two worlds. Through his association with the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Association (CAACA), the Moving forward Project and Tangentyere Council, he fought hard for the establishment of town camp leases, including Morris Soak. He was renowned for being an independent artist during the Western Desert Artist movement. Dick co-authored the book "Settled Down Country". He also served as a board member of the Tangentyere Council, a delegate for the Central Land Council (CLC), and as an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) regional councillor. He strove to set visionary benchmarks for his people to regain their traditional land, establish self-autonomy and self-reliance. This road is situated within Morris Soak town camp, Alice Springs. |
