History/Origin In commemoration of Corporal Mathew Hopkins, a member of Darwin based 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in March 2009.

For his military service he received the Australian Active Service Medal with International Coalition Against Terrorism (ICAT) clasp, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Medal and Infantry Combat Badge.
