History/Origin | Named after Kevin Francis McCarthy (1920-1981) who moved from Western Australia to Darwin with his wife Jean in 1948. Kevin worked in various jobs, including as a pearling lugger deckhand and a truck driver. In the early 1950s he established the trucking company KF McCarthy Transport. Kevin's company transported a wide variety of items, including 44 gallon drums of fuel, kegs of beer and food supplies, to places between Darwin and Katherine. The trucking business was operated out of the home yard in Parap, with Kevin maintaining all his vehicles. Kevin was a foundation member of the Trailer Boat Club at Fannie Bay and a member of Darwin Golf Club. He was also a tennis instructor and assisted with working bees and fetes at Parap Primary School. |
