History/Origin After HMAS Brisbane (III), a Perth class guided missile armed destroyer of 4,600 tonnes, commissioned in 1967.

On 26 December 1974, the day after Darwin was devastated by Cyclone Tracy, HMAS Brisbane's ship's company were recalled from Christmas leave and she 'crash' sailed from Sydney with HMAS Melbourne at 5pm on Boxing Day, carrying vital supplies to assist in what became known as Operation NAVY HELP DARWIN.

The Brisbane, together with HMAS Flinders, were the first RAN vessels to arrive off Darwin at 9am on 31 December 1974. She remained in the Darwin area until 18 January 1975.

The Brisbane was decommissioned in October 2001 and is now a dive wreck off the Queensland coast at Mudjimba.
