Amans Place is named in commemoration of Jean Edna (Jay) Amans (1913 - 2002) racehorse owner and trainer who following World War ll married an American service man. Jay, as her husband called her, was an owner trainer and supporter of bush race meetings as well as race meetings in Darwin, Katherine and Adelaide River. Her horse Son of Syrus won the 1971 Katherine and Darwin Cups, and with Ricardo, Jay won the 1972 Katherine Cup. Jean (Jay) Amans was a resident of Terrace Gardens Aged Care Home, Palmerston, when she died. |
