History/Origin | Metcalfe Road is named after distinguished police officer Allan Frederick Cyril Metcalfe (1931 - 2004). Allan joined the Northern Territory Police in July 1952, just nine days after his 21st birthday. (At that time, 21 years was the legal minimum age for police officers.) He remained with the NT Police until his retirement in 1986 at the rank of Chief Superintendent. During the course of his lengthy career, Allan Metcalfe served in bush and town stations across the NT. In 1978, Allan became the Territory's first recipient of the Queen's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. Allan was also an active member of various community groups. |
