History/Origin	Kalkarindji as an administrative area is based on and takes its name from the Aboriginal community of the same name, established as the Wave Hill Aboriginal Township in 1972 by Commonwealth Minister WC Wentworth. In October 1976, the townsite was renamed ?Kalkaringi?, however in 1985 examination of the spelling by tribal elders led to the name being amended to its current spelling.
