History/Origin Visentin Street is named in commemoration of Luigi Visentin (1914 - 2003) a Civil Engineer who emigrated from Latisana, Italy, in 1951; worked on the Snowy Mountains Scheme and various other construction projects; arriving in Darwin in 1955 with his wife and four children to work for a construction Company. As the founder and first President of the Darwin Italian Association he became heavily involved in the activities of the fledgling Italian community. As a Civil Engineering Surveyor he was involved from 1960 in constructing many of the roads and subdivisions of Darwin (in particular Anula, Wanguri, Leanyer and Wulagi). He was a respected member of the Community at large.
