History/Origin | This Hundred was originally proclaimed in the Daly River area of the Northern Territory in July 1885. A South Australian Town, north-west of Carrieton, was proclaimed on 23 November, 1882 and also named Hawkshaw by Governor Jervois after a town in Lancashire, England. Whilst the South Australian designed town was later abolished, the Territory Hundred of Hawkshaw continued to contain many agricultural areas within that Hundred. Extensions of the Hundreds of Berinka and Hawkshaw took place in October, 1913 during the Gilruth administration to encourage farming in the Daly River area. |
