History/Origin | This eastern Litchfield Shire locality derives its name from Black Jungle which first appeared on a plan of the Umpity Doo Homestead block, Agricultural Lease No 28 in 1910. The Jungle with this descriptive name was part of Koolpinyah Station granted to the Herbert Brothers in 1907 for agricultural purposes. Botanist FAK Bleeser collected many palms in the Jungle in the 1930s. Bankers Jungle and Black Jungle are remnant rain forest areas and the latter is a Conservation Reserve. |
