History/Origin | PP King named the island on 11 April 1818 deriving the name of the island from the Viscount Valentia and Baron Mountnorris (see Annesley Point, Mountnorris Bay). Although named by King in 1818 as Valentia Island, GW Goyder in his 1885 Pastoral Compilation of the Northern Territory shows the island name as Valencia Island - the name used on successive topographic maps of the NT. |
