Data Quality
Lineage:Most of the source data is from seismic survey reports and datasets submitted to NTGS by petroleum exploration companies. Lines from seismic surveys undertaken by government (Geoscience Australia and predecessors), NTGS and mineral exploration companies are also included. Data capture commenced in 2008 with minimal attribution and only 5 surveys added. All known survey lines with data of sufficient quality for mapping were added in 2011. As more data has become available additional surveys have been progressively added. Current attribution added in March 2017.
Positional Accuracy:200m
Attribute Accuracy:Attributes are compiled from acquisition reports. Accuracy is dependent on the report quality.
Logical Consistency:No tests for logical consistency performed. Source varies from digitised shot point maps to import of digital navigation data in MapInfo. Line lengths derived by MapInfo are cross checked with reported line lengths.
Completeness:Dynamic dataset. Updated when additional survey lines are available. Some vintage surveys (1960s-1980s) are missing where there is insufficient location data to plot the lines.
