Title: Northern Territory Statewide Imagery - Digital Terrain Models (DTM)
Citation Date:2000-01-01
Date Type:creation
Custodian:Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade
Description
SRTM (Shuttle Radar Terrain Mission) data has been stitched together, edited and imaged to provide an elevation grid and an elevation image of the NT. A high passed version of the grid has been used to create a relief map of the NT.

Data Quality
Lineage:SRTM data was sourced from NASA website. Data was processed within NTGS to produce NT-wide geophysical grids and images. Images are periodically updated and re-processed.
The grid has been filtered to remove spikes, and holes darned over where specular reflection has left no data.
The coloured "elevation" image has been sun shaded from the northeast and equally-distributed assigned hues from the colour wheel between purple up to red.
The grey scale "relief" image is based on the elevation grid after it has been high-pass filtered in the Fourier domain to remove the longest wavelengths. Consequently only local changes in the elevation are displayed.
Previous versions of the state of elevation used the aircraft's radar altimeter on each survey to create an incomplete mosaic across the NT. Because the calculation of the elevation required GPS heights above the spheroid, the stitch lacked elevations from surveys collected before 1996.
In February 2000, SRTM collected radar elevations across the world, releasing the data over Australia in 2004. Comprehensively covering the NT, and sampling every 80 m, the SRTM data was chosen to supersede the aircraft elevation data to make elevation products
Positional Accuracy:The SRT Mission collected the data as a hologram, then during inversion, stretched the data across known benchmarks on the ground. NTGS has not identified any location errors due to SRTM relative to our own data.
Attribute Accuracy:SRTM Bibliography estimates the height accuracy to be 90% better than 8 m across Australia.
Radar " speckle" produces uncertainties of up to 5 m between adjacent pixels.
Logical Consistency:Not Applicable
Completeness:SRTM data covers the entire NT with 80 m pixels, albeit missing some pixels in salt lakes and tidal flats.
