Description

Abstract:

This polygon spatial dataset displays drainage bodies over the Northern Territory including a 70 km buffer beyond the border.
The drainage bodies are displayed in two separate datasets; HydroArea and Waterbody.
The data was sourced from the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (AHGF Geofabric) V3.2 via the Commonwealth of Australia (Bureau of Meteorology).

Data Quality

Lineage:Data source: Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (AHGF Geofabric) V3.2 via the Commonwealth of Australia (Bureau of Meteorology).
SH_Cartography.GDB Feature Class - AHGF Hydro Area and AHGF Waterbody.
Clipped to Northern Territory (+ approximately 70km beyond the border). Names were converted to Title Case. Attributes were reduced to minimum requirements for simple use.

Positional Accuracy:Data has not been edited from original source.

Attribute Accuracy:View data dictionary in this metadata record for feature types.

Logical Consistency:Data is polygons and has not been edited from original source.

Completeness:Geofabric version 3.2; data source and date noted in spatial dataset.

25Reservoir: A body of water collected and stored behind a constructed barrier for some specific use (with the exception of Flood Irrigation Storage).
26Lake: A naturally occurring body of mainly static water surrounded by land.
27Swamp: Land which is so saturated with water that it is not suitable for agricultural or pastoral use and presents a barrier to free passage.
54Watercourse Area: Low lying land usually adjacent to lakes or watercourses, which is regularly covered with flood water for short periods.
56Flat: Land which is so saturated with water that it is not suitable for agricultural or pastoral use and presents a barrier to free passage or Low lying land usually adjacent to lakes or watercourses, which is regularly covered with flood water for short periods.
57Pondage Area: Shallow beds, usually segmented by constructed walls, for the use of aquaculture or a flat area, usually segmented, used for the commercial production of salt by evaporation and shallow beds, usually segmented by constructed walls, for the treatment of sewage or other wastes.
58Rapid Area: An area of broken, fast flowing water in a watercourse, where the slope of the bed increases (but without a prominent break of slope which might result in a waterfall), or where a gently dipping bar of harder rock outcrops.
59Foreshore Flat: That part of the seabed or estuarine areas, between mean high water and the line of lowest astronomical tide.
